Jackson Hole Fire/EMS held a Captain Assessment Center in October to fill an open Fire Captain position at Station 1. Four excellent candidates took place in the Captain Assessment Center. Mike Hazlett was the candidate selected to fill the open position. Captain Hazlett worked for Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District from 1998-2016. During his career with Metro Fire, he held the positions of Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Engineer/Paramedic, Helicopter Crew Chief, Helicopter Flight Officer, Training Captain and Acting Battalion Chief. Additional career highlights include acting as a Medical Specialist for FEMA USAR Sacramento Task Force #7 and Medical Unit Leader for the US Forest Service, California Interagency Incident Management Team #3. Following his career with Metro Fire, he served as the Fire Chief of Mosquito Fire Protection District from 2015-2016 and is leaving a position as the Assistant Fire Chief with Aerojet Rocketdyne. Captain Hazlett has a long list of special training and qualifications, including Fire Instructor, HazMat Technician, HazMat IC, Fire Officer 1, Chief Officer, Strike Team/Task Force Leader, Swiftwater Rescue Technician and the list goes on.
Captain Hazlett will start on December 1st. He will receive his badge and bugles at the Officer’s Meeting on December 4th and will be at the All Dept. Meeting on December 13th. We welcome Captain Hazlett to the community.
