About the Fire / EMS Administration

Jackson Hole Fire/EMS is a full service emergency response organization which manages the fire protection and emergency medical services system for the Town of Jackson and Teton County, Wyoming. This combination department was organized through a 2004 Joint Powers Agreement between the Town of Jackson and Teton County.

Funding

Funding is provided on a 45/55 basis from the Town of Jackson and Teton County. The Town of Jackson enjoys an Insurance Services Office (ISO) classification of Class 5 within the Town limits. Anything within 5 miles of Station 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 have an ISO of 7. Everything else has an ISO rating of 10.

The Fire Department is funded through the tax base within Teton County and the Town of Jackson. Money to operate the department is generated through several tax areas, but a significant portion through the Special Fire Fund. Overall costs for apparatus purchases and facility construction and expansion are typically offset by grant acquisition and donations.

Fire Administration Services

  • Compiles, presents and monitors the annual budget
  • Coordinates and manages fire suppression and prevention for Teton County and the Town of Jackson
  • Enforces State Statutes related to the duties and responsibilities of the County Fire Warden
  • Enforces State Statutes related to the Fire Department through Local Enforcement
  • Equipment and apparatus specifications and purchase
  • Implements rules and regulations
  • Keeps inventory of all equipment
  • Maintains files on hose records, maintenance records, personnel records and general Business records
  • Participates in emergency management
  • Public relations and liaison activities
  • Working with Grand Teton National Park, Bridger-Teton National Forest,  Fish and Wildlife, State Forestry and neighboring counties
  • Working with the public on fire related issues
