Teton County COVID-19 Community Level Metrics, last updated on 5/8/2023
Teton County Health Department is using the CDC’s Community Levels framework to assess the current impact of COVID-19 on the community. This framework has replaced the CDC’s previous Transmission Risk System. The Community Levels framework aims to assess the transmission of COVID-19 and the impact of severe COVID-19 disease on a county.
There are three metrics used to calculate the Community Level:
1) Total new cases per 100,000 in the last 7 days.
2) Total new hospital admissions with confirmed COVID-19 per 100,000 in the last 7 days.
3) Percent of inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients (7-day average).
Based on these metrics, counties are determined to be in the low (green), medium (yellow), or high (orange) category. Communities below 200 cases per 100,000 can be in any category depending on the hospitalization-related metrics. If a county has a rate of 200 cases per 100,000 or more, it will remain in either the medium (yellow) or high (orange) level. After the case rate is calculated, the higher of the two hospitalization-related metrics determines the final Community Level. Please see the CDC’s Community Levels chart below for more details. Please see below for a graphic of the CDC's new community levels.

The percent of inpatient beds occupied with COVID-19 patients averaged over the last 7 day | less than 10.0% | 10.0-14.9% | greater than 15.0%
200 or More | New hospital admissions with confirmed COVID-19 per 100,000 population over the last 7 days | NA | less than 10.0 | greater than 10.0 |
The percent of inpatient beds occupied with COVID-19 patients averaged over the last 7 day | NA | less than 10.0% | greater than 10.0%
The COVID-19 community level is determined by which ever of the two hospital metrics (new admissions or percent of inpatients beds) is higher. |
Teton County Health Department will provide a snapshot of the COVID Community Level every other week while we remain in green by updating this webpage and by sending out a Nixle message with more information. If you are interested in signing up for the COVID Nixle messages please text TC_COVID to 888777. For a more up to date information on these three metrics please see the COVID-19 dashboard. Teton County Health Department goes through a quality assurance process with the COVID-19 data presented on the COVID-19 dashboard to ensure that there are no duplicate cases, cases from non-residents, and other errors that would affect the metrics.
To see a weekly update of Teton County's COVID-19 community levels please see the CDC's COVID-19 Community Levels for more information. *The data sent to the CDC has not yet gone through Teton County's Quality Assurance Process. This is one reason the data on the Dashboard will not align completely with the CDC.
